Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics astronomer, Xavier Dumusque, made quite the cosmic discovery. Newly found mega-Earth, Kepler-10c, is located about 560 light-years from Earth in the constellation Draco. The planet circles a sunlike star once every 45 days, and the system also hosts a 3-Earth-mass “lava world,” Kepler-10b, in a remarkably fast, 20-hour orbit.
Kepler-10c was originally spotted by NASA’s Kepler spacecraft, which finds planets using the transit method: looking for a star that dims when a planet passes in front of it. By measuring the amount of dimming, astronomers can calculate the planet’s physical size or diameter. Kepler-10c was found to have a diameter of about 18,000 miles, which is 2.3 times larger than Earth. However, Kepler can’t tell whether a planet is rocky or gassy.
Using the HARPS-North instrument on the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG) in the Canary Islands to measure the mass of Kepler-10c, the team found that the planet weighed 17 times as much as Earth – far more than expected. This measurement showed that Kepler-10c must have a dense composition of rocks and other solids.
Reasonable doubt
An article from the NASA website reports that worlds like Kepler-10c were not thought to exist. The enormous gravitational force of such a massive body would accrete a gas envelope during formation, ballooning the planet to a gas giant the size of Neptune or even Jupiter. However, this planet is thought to be solid, composed primarily of rock.
Xavier Dumusque stated in a Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics press release, “Kepler-10c didn’t lose its atmosphere over time. It’s massive enough to have held onto one if it ever had it. It must have formed the way we see it now.”
It seems as though no matter how much we think we know, it turns out that we really don’t know anything at all. But isn’t that what occultists and ancient philosophers have been trying to tell us for centuries? Millennia? It’s most interesting how modern day, mainstream scientists — and their almost cult-like followers — are all about the facts and what can be proven. The only thing that can ever truly be proven is the probability of any theory being disproven.
Kepler mission scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, Natalie Batalha, stated, “Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, nature gives you a huge surprise – in this case, literally. Isn’t science marvelous?”
Yes, science is marvelous. It’s marvelous because some of our greatest scientists — such as Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Eisenstein — were, in fact, mystics, and now the time can’t be any better for the gap between science and mysticism to finally be bridged. From New Agers to hard core occultists and mystics, there is a greater understanding of the universe, the origins of life, and what is capable of being found and known throughout the cosmos. Hopefully, now we can truly explore various techniques of exploration and experimentation when studying ourselves and our place in The Universe.
Origins of life
The discovery of Kepler-10c is reported to have profound implications for the history of The Universe and the possibility of life. The Kepler-10 system is about 11 billion years old, which means it formed less than 3 billion years after the Big Bang. Heavy planetary elements, like silicon and iron, had to be created in the first generations of stars, as the early universe only contained hydrogen and helium. This process should have taken billions of years; however, Kepler-10c shows that The Universe was able to form such huge rocks even during the time when heavy elements were scarce.
CfA researcher, Dimitar Sasselov, director of the Harvard Origins of Life Initiative, said “Finding Kepler-10c tells us that rocky planets could form much earlier than we thought. And if you can make rocks, you can make life.”
Those who understand the essence of the mineral soul as a level of consciousness will know that this conclusion is true. There is so much that we don’t even truly understand about our own planet, much less the realistic possibilities of what can manifest in The Universe and how. Science will always guide our quest for knowledge of the Divine, for it simply studies the Laws that Govern Humanity and The Universe.
And by the way: yes, Beloveds, rocks are alive too!
